There is a great deal of motion as people move to and fro.

Perhaps his appearance reflects his inner state. He could be suffering from depression and feels isolated, despite his presence in a sea of people. The strongest element of this image is the integration of the cardboard man into the photo. His presence is the only noticeable manipulation, and it is very convincing.
